It was the possibility of water power that spurred the birth of the two villages in the 1840s. Neenah was incorporated in 1873. A year later Menasha was established and awarded the charter to develop the water power for the area. Historic mansions once belonging to area paper barons surround Riverside Park, 500 E. Wisconsin Ave., and Kimberly Point Park, 290 Lakeshore Ave.
