Worland
On the grounds of the county courthouse is a 260-year-old Douglas fir that has been carved into a monument honoring Native Americans, part of sculptor Peter Toth's “Trail of the Whispering Giants.” Among the city's nine parks is Pioneer Square, which has statues honoring the area's early settlers. A nearby drinking fountain offers artesian mineral water from the Bighorn Mountains.
The Bighorn Mountains are popular with campers, hikers, hunters, skiers and snowmobilers. Passing through the city is Bighorn River, offering abundant fishing opportunities.
Vestiges of a far earlier time are the Gooseberry Formations and Painted Desert west on SR 431. In this area of dramatically eroded formations were found the remains of eohippus (dawn horse), the earliest known equine. Wild horses still can be viewed north of town.
