Ansel Adams is known for his striking black-and-white photos, capturing and preserving the wild beauty of nature’s monuments. More than just a display of Adams’ work, the gallery also features works from other contemporary artists; exhibits are rotated every six weeks. The gallery offers outdoor photography workshops for budding and experienced nature photographers alike, which generally include a stop at the gallery to learn about Adams.

  • Free camera tours are available several times per week; note that those on Tuesdays depart from the nearby Majestic Yosemite Hotel.

  • Wheelchair users should note that there is a ramp on the visitor center side of the building that leads to the upper level of the gallery.

The Ansel Adams Gallery is located in Village Mall in the Yosemite Valley, right by the visitor center off Northside Drive. Parking is available in the lot in front of the Village Store; alternatively, guests can walk about 20 minutes to the Yosemite Valley Lodge. The gallery is about a 45-minute drive to the Big Oak Flat entrance of Yosemite National Park.

The gallery is open daily from 10am to 3pm, with extended hours in the summer. The gallery is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. On most Saturdays at 3pm, the curator offers fine-print tours, and staff photographers offer free camera walks are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays during the summer months.

A film about Adams,Ansel Adams, Photographer, is screened every Friday and is available for sale at the bookshop. Released in 2002, this documentary follows the life of the photographer and is as visually pleasing as it is informative, with beautiful shots of the American West (including many from Yosemite itself).
