Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

260 Tramway Drive, Franconia, New Hampshire

Take in aerial views spanning four states as you ride the glass-lined Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway to the top of New Hampshire's tallest mountain. The country’s first aerial tramway, the tram was created to give skiers mountaintop access. Today, you can ride the tram year-round, whether you're a hiker, skier, or sightseer.

With a carrying capacity of 80 people, the tram whisks you to the 4,080-foot (1,243-meter) peak of Cannon Mountain in just eight minutes. At the summit, enjoy panoramic views from an observation deck and pub food in a mountaintop cafe and bar. In winter, you can hop on one of the many ski routes. When the snow melts, enjoy a hike around the mountaintop or utilize the tram as one-way transportation and hike the other way.

  • The tram provides convenient access for hiking and skiing.

  • See more of the park for less money with a Discovery Pass, which includes the tram and nearby Flume Gorge.

  • The tramway and facilities are wheelchair accessible, but the summit trails are not.

  • Pets are not permitted on the tram and only allowed in designated areas of the park.

The base of the tram is located off of I-93 in Franconia Notch State Park. Take exit 34B and turn right onto Tramway Drive.

The tramway and mountaintop attractions are open year-round. For the best views, visit on a clear day. Don’t visit on holidays if you want to avoid the crowds.

In addition to taking a ride on the tramway and exploring the summit area, you can also enjoy several other attractions within the park. Don’t miss Flume Gorge, a narrow granite gorge with a wooden walkway enabling you to travel deep into the canyon. Visit Echo Lake Beach for swimming, kayaking, and sunbathing. Plus, stop by the New England Ski Museumn for a primer on ski history at the base of the tramway.
