POINT OF INTEREST

Dickenson Bay

St. John’s, Antigua

White sand, blue water, and a celebratory spirit characterize Dickenson Bay. As one of Antigua’s most popular beaches, it's ideal for people-watching, meeting new friends, and embracing the vibrant Caribbean culture. You’ll spot kayakers, swimmers, and windsurfers enjoying the calm bay waters, while others relax at beachfront eateries.

This busy beach is lined with resorts, bars, and restaurants, while kiosks rent out snorkeling gear and kayaks. Thanks to its protected location, its crystal waters remain calm and flat—perfect for lazing in the water. A mile-long (1.5 kilometer long) coral reef off the coast is one of the main highlights of the bay. In the evening, sunset cruises depart from the bay, providing the perfect end to a day of relaxation.

  • The beach is very popular, so arrive early to stake out your spot.

  • Don’t forget your sunscreen and an umbrella, as shade can be tricky to find.

  • Follow posted signage when it comes to swimming areas.

It’s a 10-minute drive from central St. John’s, and for those who don’t have their own car, taxis are easy to find and affordable. Otherwise, many hotels offer shuttle services. For those who want to explore on foot, it’s a 50-minute walk (2.5 miles or 4 kilometers) from St. John’s to the beach.

Arrive early to make sure you get a good spot to lounge, as the beach fills up early. Aim for a weekday for slightly fewer visitors, but the beach tends to be busy at all times. If you’re looking for a calmer spot, head to nearby Runaway Bay, which is typically quieter.

The beachfront Ana’s Restaurant and Art Gallery is the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely lunch while discovering local artists. The gallery highlights the work of young artists, and the menu features fresh seafood and a fusion of Caribbean and Mediterranean flavors. In the evenings, the restaurant often hosts singers and musicians, making it a great venue for day or night.
