Learn about the French and Indian War with a visit to the Fort William Henry Museum. This historic battle site and fort is now a busy museum that offers visitors the chance to see wartime relics, attend live military arms demonstrations, and enjoy daily talks, programs, and tours.

Fort William Henry, near Lake George, was originally built in 1755, at the start of the French and Indian War. Kids can also dress as soldiers and learn about muskets and old military commands.

Though you can buy same-day tickets, it's best to pre-book discounted admission to this museum to avoid lines. To make the most of your time in Lake George, pair a visit to the museum with a sightseeing cruise and enjoy Adirondack Mountain views and optional on-board dining.

The Fort William Henry Museum is open daily. To make the most of your visit, plan to stop by in spring, summer, or fall, as winter in Lake George tends to be windy and cold. History enthusiasts shouldn't miss the talks and demonstrations offered in July and August.

Visitors looking for a spooky twist on the typical fort tour shouldn't miss Fort William Henry’s ghost tour, offered from May through October.
