Mascot Saloon Museum

Broadway and 3rd Avenue, Skagway, Alaska

During the Klondike Gold Rush days, Skagway was a rough-drinking town, boasting more than 80 saloons. The Mascot Saloon was one of the longest-operating saloons of the era, and is now overseen by the National Park Service as a museum and monument to Skagway’s colorful past.

Learn about the heyday of the Klondike Gold Rush at this restored saloon in the heart of Skagway. The Mascot Saloon was one of the few watering holes in Skagway that survived from early days of the gold rush until Prohibition closed its doors in 1916. Visitors can enjoy the re-creation of a bar scene, complete with wax patrons and replica whiskey bottles, and browse the collection of photographs and memorabilia.

  • The Mascot Saloon Museum is a must-see for gold rush history buffs.

  • No actual alcohol is served at the site.

  • Admission is free, and the building is wheelchair accessible.

The Mascot Saloon Museum is in the Gold Rush National Historical Park in downtown Skagway, on the corner of Broadway and 3rd Avenue near the Historic Moore Homestead and the Red Onion Saloon. A seasonal public bus is available to shuttle visitors from the cruise dock to attractions in town.

The Mascot Saloon Museum is open daily from morning to early evening, from early May through late September. The museum is closed through the winter and services are limited in Skagway during that time. The nearby Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Visitor Center Museum is open year-round.

Designated a historic park in 1976 to preserve the history of the Klondike Gold Rush, the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park comprises several historic buildings in downtown Skagway, as well as the Dyea Townsite and Chilkoot Trail. The visitor center, in the White Pass & Yukon Route depot, offers a film about the gold rush and free ranger-guided tours of downtown Skagway.
