POINT OF INTEREST

Moss Mansion

914 Division St., Billings, Montana

The red sandstone Moss Mansion Historic House Museum and its tranquil grounds have been preserved to provide a time capsule of life in Billings, Montana, at the beginning of the 20th century. Originally built as the Moss family home in 1903 and inhabited until the 1980s, the mansion now holds historic exhibits, special events, and educational tours.

Visitors to Moss Mansion can enjoy a guided tour or explore the house independently on a self-guided tour. Choose a guided tour to learn about the Moss family and mansion architecture from an enthusiastic docent. Throughout the tour, discover antique household items, carefully preserved artifacts, and the house’s technology, which was ahead of its time. The mansion can also be rented for weddings and other special events. Additionally, you can book private, large-group, or specialty tours.

  • The Moss Mansion is a must-see for history buffs visiting Billings.

  • The mansion has no lifts or elevators, so wheelchair access is limited.

  • You can purchase souvenirs at the mansion gift shop.

  • The museum is sometimes closed due to private events—call ahead to double-check.

The Moss Mansion is located in a historic neighborhood in downtown Billings. When traveling on Interstate 90, take exit 450, then take N. 27th Street to 3rd Avenue N. From Logan International Airport, take Terminal Circle to N. 27th Street to 3rd Avenue N. Parking is available on Clark Avenue and Yellowstone Avenue.

The mansion is open year-round, but to enjoy temperate weather and see the grounds in bloom, visit in the spring or summer. For the mansion's Christmas display, visit after November 15 to see bedazzled Christmas trees in each room of the museum.

Surrounded by expansive grounds and a historic neighborhood, the museum also provides information for tours of the surrounding area. You can pick up a guide and map at the museum admissions desk or access them online by entering a URL that is posted on signs outside the museum entrance.
