POINT OF INTEREST

Williamson Wines

134 Matheson St., Healdsburg, California

In the heart of Sonoma Wine Country, Williamson Winery is one of downtown Healdsburg's top tasting rooms. Visit the winery to pair award-winning wines from sustainably farmed vineyards along the famed Dry Creek Valley with small artisanal bites—usually, cheeses and tapas selected for each varietal. Tastings are available at two downtown tasting rooms and a vineyard outside of town.

The Williamson Winery tasting rooms are each about one block from Healdsburg Plaza, about as walkable locations as you can find in California Wine Country. You’ll need to book a tour or make reservations to visit—the main room at 134 Matheson St. offers wine and cheese "Fridge Food" tastings every 90 minutes daily. You can also try wine flights, reserve wine tastings, tastings with lunch, and other pairings at the winery's various locations around Healdsburg.

  • The winery has indoor and outdoor seating.

  • Both tasting rooms are on Matheson Street: 134 Matheson and 18 Matheson.

  • Leashed and well-behaved service dogs are permitted inside the tasting rooms.

The Williamson Winery tasting rooms are in the center of Healdsburg, steps away from Healdsburg Plaza. Your best option for reaching this lovely part of Sonoma Wine Country is booking a wine tour, arranging for private transportation, or driving—about 1.5 hours north of San Francisco by car.

Tastings at the "The Original" main room are available every 90 minutes from 11am to 5pm daily year-round, while food and wine pairings are offered every two hours from 12pm to 4pm at Eighteen & Bill's Cellar on 18 Matheson St. Healdsburg is a year-round wine-tasting destination, but things pick up in spring, summer, and early fall.

Dozens of wineries reside in Dry Creek Valley—including Williamson Wines—and more than 160 produce wines with the Dry Creek Valley designation. The valley, formed by Dry Creek, a tributary of the Russian River, is famed for producing excellent wines and for the resident farmers serving Sonoma County's farm-to-table restaurants.
