Wave goodbye to Billings as you begin winding your way up the dizzying Beartooth Scenic Byway, built in 1936. You'll climb and descend past wildflower meadows, pine forests, waterfalls, countless lakes and craggy peaks en route to the junction with the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. An equally wonderful drive ushers you into historic Cody.

A cowboy town in the 1890s, Cody today is primarily a gateway to nearby Yellowstone National Park. But don't overlook its rich, rough-and-tumble history, evidenced by several Old West-themed museums in town. On your way back to Billings, relive General George Armstrong Custer's bloody last stand at Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.
