Myth: Regular windshield wipers can be used year-round.

Fact: Modern wipers usually last 6 to 12 months, depending on exposure to heat, dust, dirt, UV radiation and acid rain. If you live in regions impacted by these and other weather and environmental factors, changing windshield wipers seasonally is a good practice. The type of windshield wipers specially designed for winter weather have tougher rubber composites made to withstand the rigors of snow and ice. These are more expensive, but a good idea to have if you drive where there is significant snowfall each year.
