Settled in the 1880s during the westward push of the Canadian Pacific Railroad, Massey was a thriving lumbering center. Just 19 kilometres (12 mi.) south of the site a fur-trading post had been operated throughout the 19th century by the Northwest Co. and then by Hudson's Bay Co. The first farms were settled by riverboat along the Spanish River, and others by railroad. The town was officially organized in 1904. Today the many nearby lakes and rivers make the area a favorite with vacationers. The Tourism Information Centre is in the Massey Area Museum . Learn More...
