Things To Know About Yellowstone

There are five entrance stations and 10 visitor centers within Yellowstone National Park. Entrances are located in Gardiner, Montana (North Entrance); Cooke City, Montana (Northeast Entrance); 53 miles west of Cody, Wyoming (East Entrance); about 60 miles north of Jackson, Wyoming (South Entrance); and in West Yellowstone, Montana (West Entrance). You’ll find visitor centers close to many of the top attractions, including near Yellowstone Lake, Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs.

Park roads make it easy to access most of the top attractions in Yellowstone. Miles of boardwalks, paved trails and driving loops allow you to get close to geysers, hot springs and other volcanic formations, but keep in mind that these mineral springs are boiling hot, and the solid-looking crusts around geyser formations can be remarkably fragile. Keep a close watch over children while in these areas, and be sure to stay on boardwalks or formal paths.

Note: Record flooding in 2022, especially in the northern region, has affected park access and amenities; phone ahead.
