Corner Brook

One of Newfoundland and Labrador's first industrial sawmills was built in Corner Brook in 1894, and the city boasts one of the world's largest integrated pulp and paper mills.

The 10-story Government Centre cuts a striking silhouette against Corner Brook's skyline. Also noteworthy is the Arts and Cultural Centre, which contains a theater and art exhibition areas. Margaret Bowater Park, in the heart of town, offers swimming, picnicking and a children's playground.

Northwest from Corner Brook, hwys. 440 and 450 offer scenic drives along the north and south shores of Humber Arm, respectively. On the tip of the southern shore extending into the Bay of Islands, a tower at Blow Me Down Provincial Park offers a view of Guernsey, Tweed and Pearl islands.

Barachois Pond Provincial Park also is in the area and is near Stephenville on Hwy 1.
