Penetanguishene
Awenda Provincial Park, 11 kilometres (7 mi.) northwest off CR 26 on Awenda Park Road, has significant geological and historical features; Nippissing Bluff was formed 11,500 years ago as glaciers. Sand, cobble, boulder beaches and a kettle lake confirm the area's glaciated past. The presence of native people dating back 5,000 years is confirmed through archeological sites. The park also offers numerous hiking and cross-country ski trails.
Other recreational activities available in the area include bicycling, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, hiking, camping and miles of beaches for swimming. Winter brings opportunities for snowmobiling and skiing. In the spring visitors can watch maple syrup demonstrations.
