Spanish Town
The heart of Spanish Town is Parade Square, at King and Adelaide sts., with its stately Georgian buildings. Here are the Assembly House, the old King's House and the Rodney Memorial. The old courthouse was gutted by fire and has not been restored.
The ruins of 17th-century Colbeck Castle, reached by a slight detour off the road to Old Harbour, are worth visiting. The main facade is more than 100 feet (30 m) high, and the four fortresslike towers are each 40 feet (12 m) high with walls 3 feet (.9 m) thick. The monumental construction hints that this castle was not only a residence but also a bastion against the fierce Maroons.
