DESTINATION

Crested Butte

More elegant landmarks from the town's past are found along Elk Avenue, where restored Victorian buildings feature shops, eateries and outfitters. Culturally speaking, the Crested Butte Center for the Arts is the town's destination for music, dance, theater and art; phone (970) 349-7487.

The Gunnison National Forest, Elk Mountains and Raggeds Wilderness surround the town. Jagged peaks, glacial valleys and aspen-covered slopes provide a scenic backdrop for golfing, mountain biking and hiking. Three miles from Crested Butte, the resort community of Mt. Crested Butte has become a center for recreation, especially skiing, snowboarding, tubing, mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding in Gunnison National Forest.
