Pagosa Springs

Numerous lakes and the surrounding lands of the San Juan National Forest and the Weminuche Wilderness Area offer a wide variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, rafting, hot air ballooning, hunting, alpine and cross-country skiing, ice skating and snowmobiling; phone (970) 247-4874. Just 17 miles west of the city is the 3,160-acre Chimney Rock National Monument, set atop a high mesa that contains hundreds of Ancestral Puebloan sites. Tours and interpretive events are available.
