South Fork
South Fork serves as the southern gateway to the Silver Thread Scenic Byway on US 149 as it winds its way 117 miles westward through the San Juan Mountains to Blue Mesa Reservoir. Interpretive signs along the highway give details about the region's history, geology and wildlife.
The area's many lakes and 47 Rio Grande tributaries allow for plentiful fishing and river rafting opportunities. Other recreational activities include hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hunting and skiing.
