Grangeville
A life-size replica of the giant mammoth unearthed in 1995 at nearby Tolo Lake, 6 miles west of town, can be seen in Eimers Park on US 95 at Pine Street. Grangeville also is an outfitting point for wilderness and float trips.
South of Grangeville US 95 descends 3,000 feet to the Salmon River Canyon via the White Bird Grade. This 7-mile section of the highway bypasses the dozens of switchbacks and hairpin curves of the original route, which can be seen to the east. White Bird Battlefield, a designated site of Nez Perce National Historical Park, is about 16 miles south on US 95.
