Lava Hot Springs

For centuries the Shoshone and Bannock Indians regarded the springs as a neutral site. But the tribes camp was disrupted during the 19th century when the springs were discovered by Oregon-bound travelers and Utah pioneers who founded a settlement called Dempsey. By 1902 the Native Americans had ceded their rights to the springs, selling the land to the U.S. government, which in turn gave the area to the state.
