Blue Earth

The Chocolate Dream, the predecessor of the Eskimo Pie, originated in Blue Earth, which also is home to the Jolly Green Giant statue; more than 55 feet tall, it stands in Green Giant Park, off I-90 at 1126 Green Giant Ln. The statue overlooks particularly rich farmland and symbolizes the Green Giant/Seneca Foods Co.'s longevity in town. On the park grounds is the Little Red Barn, which contains exhibits and information about the statue. It's open Mon.-Sat. 10-4, Memorial Day-Labor Day; phone (507) 526-3001.

The Giant Museum, 113 S. Nicollet St., contains memorabilia associated with the jolly one and his pint-size cohort, Little Green Sprout; for additional information contact the chamber of commerce.
