Lake Placid

Summer recreational facilities include foot and bicycle paths, private and public beaches, tennis courts, six golf courses, hiking trails and the indoor Olympic Arena for summer ice skating. Boats can be rented at either lake. Whiteface Mountain provides gondola rides over grassy ski slopes, and the Whiteface Mountain Veterans' Memorial Highway runs almost to the summit.

The United States Olympic Training Center, 196 Old Military Rd., offers guided tours of its facilities Mon.-Fri. at 3; phone (518) 523-2600. The Uihlein Sugar Maple Field Station at 157 Bear Cub Lane contains maple sugar exhibits and demonstrations; phone (518) 523-9337.
