DESTINATION

New Rochelle

In the 1890s the town became a popular retreat for noted actors, artists and authors, including Eddie Foy, Agnes Booth and Frederic Remington. The town still is known as a wealthy suburb of commuters who work in New York City.

The Thomas Paine Cottage, 20 Sicard Ave., was the home of the American political theorist and writer. A museum 100 yards north houses Thomas Paine artifacts. Both are open to the public. Phone (914) 633-1776 for Thursday, Saturday and Sunday hours and fees.
