New Bern
In 1898, Pepsi-Cola was invented in New Bern by Caleb Bradham. His former pharmacy at the corner of Middle and Pollock streets features a soda fountain and a store that sells Pepsi-related memorabilia; phone (252) 636-5898.
Older buildings are outstanding examples of American architecture, especially the early 19th-century Federal style. The Bank of the Arts , a 1912 former bank building at 317 Middle St., displays changing exhibits by regional and national artists; phone (252) 638-2577. Self-guiding Tours
