Weirs Beach

Weirs Beach lies on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. Its name is thought to mean “Smile of the Great Spirit.” The title is apt, for island-studded Winnipesaukee is considered one of the most picturesque lakes in the state. It also is the largest; the many bays and deep coves create a 283-mile shoreline.

Endicott Rock, a large boulder, was marked by emissaries of Gov. John Endicott of Massachusetts Colony. Proceeding 3 miles north, they established the northern boundary of Massachusetts, a line that held until the separation of New Hampshire and Massachusetts in 1740.
