Carson National Forest

The Wheeler Peak, Latir Peak, Cruces Basin and Pecos wilderness areas preserve the region's pristine beauty. The Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway is an 84-mile drive offering panoramic views of the southern Rocky Mountains, including Wheeler Peak. It loops from Taos east to Eagle Nest, then north to Questa via SR 38, and south on SR 522 back to Taos.

The curved cliff side of Echo Amphitheater, 9 miles south of Canjilon on US 84, is a prime spot for photography. Summer and winter recreation is available. Trails for bicycling, hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing traverse the forest.
