The 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail transects the forest, running from Richards in the west to near Cleveland in the east. A separate 85-mile system of multiuse trails is open for ATVs, mountain biking and horseback riding; the Cagle Recreation Area has a 2.2-mile loop around Lake Conroe.
