POINT OF INTEREST

Berlin Jewish Museum (Jüdisches Museum)

Lindenstraße 9-14, Berlin, DEU

Berlin’s extensive Jewish Museum (Jüdisches Museum) explores the history of Jewish people in Germany. By telling stories through personal objects, the museum closely examines the events of the past, including the persecution of Jews throughout Europe and the Holocaust.

The Jewish Museum, opened in 2001, is housed between two connected sites—the baroque Old Building (originally built to house the Supreme Court) and the zinc-covered postmodern structure designed by Daniel Libeskind. Along with exhibits covering the turbulent history of Jewish people in Germany, the museum presents art installations and discussions on modern Jewish life. Highlights include the thought-provoking Holocaust Tower and the Garden of Exile with its concrete pillars laid out at disorientating angles. Explore independently, or arrive as part of a private or group tour.

  • Skip the line with a multi-attraction pass.

  • The museum is wheelchair accessible.

  • A café and souvenir store are inside.

  • Pick up an audio guide to learn more about the exhibits.

The Jewish Museum is located at Lindenstrasse 9-14 in central Berlin. The closest U-Bahn stations are Hallesches Tor and Kochstrasse. Parking is limited at the museum. Hop-on hop-off buses stop outside the museum.

The museum opens daily from 10am–8pm. It’s closed on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Christmas Eve. Last entry is one hour before closing time.

With its classical columns and imposing size, the Reichstag looks every inch the impressive government building, apart from the futuristic dome protruding from the roof. This modern addition, designed by architect Norman Foster, is open to the public and well worth a visit. You can look down upon the government assembly rooms and see the politicians in action, plus enjoy panoramic views over Berlin from the top.
