POINT OF INTEREST

Christian Arts Museum of Fort Worth

3221 Hamilton Ave., Fort Worth, Texas

This museum near the cultural district of Fort Worth features modernist depictions of Christianity and religiously inspiring art. An outlier among modern art museums, its small permanent collection features a life-size depiction of Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting The Last Supper created in wax by sculptor Katherine Stubergh.

The main draw is the display of The Last Supper by wax sculptor Katherine Stubergh—the life-size depiction of da Vinci’s work is one of four in the world. Seeing it, and the small collections of religious art, is easy—admission is free. You can also combine your visit with a stop at one of a handful of museums nearby, including the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Kimbell Art Museum, and Amon Carter Museum of American Art.

  • Admission is free.

  • Groups are welcome by appointment.

  • Check the museum website for special exhibits throughout the year.

The museum is on Bailey Avenue just north of the Fort Worth Cultural District, a collection of major museums, music venues, and other arty locales west of downtown. It's a short drive, but the best way to reach the area is on the Dash, an electric bus running from downtown to the 7th Street corridor and the Cultural District.

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from morning to afternoon. During the holiday season, from Thanksgiving through the first week in January, the museum features rotating exhibits with themes such as the Ark of the Covenant and nativity scenes from around the world.

While there’s a ton to do in the area (hello rodeos and botanic gardens!), remember that the Kimbell Art Museum, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth—top city museums—are within a few blocks of each other on Camp Bowie Boulevard. Start with these three before visiting the others.
