Clérigos Church and Tower (Torre & Igreja dos Clérigos)

Rua de São Filipe de Nery, Clerigos, Porto, PRT

Standing atop a hill overlooking Porto, Portugal, are the Igreja dos Clérigos, an 18th-century church and one of the city’s architectural symbols, and the Toree dos Clérigos, its bell tower. Intricately carved baroque shells and garlands on the church reflect Porto’s seaside location, and the bell tower offers panoramic views of the city.

Clérigos Church and Tower (Torre & Igreja dos Clérigos) are an integral part of Porto’s architecture and feature on most city sightseeing tours, which typically stop at other notable attractions such as the Ribeira District and Porto Cathedral (Se Cathedral). Some tours include a cruise along the Douro River, passing Porto’s famous six bridges, while others head out into the Douro Valley to sample the region’s finest wines. Travelers can also visit Torre & Igreja dos Clérigos as part of a day trip from Lisbon, which is around three hours away by car or train.
