Genesee Country Village & Museum (GCV&M)

See history come to life at Genesee Country Village and Museum, near Rochester, N.Y. Spanning 600 acres (243 hectares), the GCV&M is the largest living history museum in the state and provides a look at 19th-century life through its 68 historical buildings, costumed interpreters, demonstrations, and interactive programs and events.

Explore the historic village on your own or join a guided tour. Walk through the 68 restored and furnished buildings, spanning simple frontier cabins to elaborate Victorian mansions; learn about the time period from costumed interpreters; watch demonstrations of skills, such as blacksmithing, coopering, or weaving; or take a class. GCV&M is home to the John L. Wehle Art Gallery, Nature Center, Silver Baseball Park, a pioneer farm, and several Heirloom Gardens.

  • Special events require a separate entrance fee and must be purchased separately.

GCV&M is located in Mumford, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southwest of Rochester, and 45 miles (72 kilometers) east of Buffalo. Take the NYS Thruway to Exit 47, then follow the signs to GCV&M.

GCV&M's regular season runs from May to mid-October, with holiday hours running through Dec. 31. From January through early May, the grounds are open on select dates and for special events and classes. Check the schedule ahead of time for details. With so much to see and do, it's easy to spend the day here. Some programs run over several days.

Established and named after the museum’s founder, the gallery is home to one of the top collections of sporting and wildlife art in the country. Trace the history of equine, canine, angling, driving, racing, hunting, and shooting arts from the 17th century onwards through art. While at the gallery, check out the Susan W. Greene clothing collection too.
