Comfort Inn & Suites Alexandria

The location of the hotel was excellent, just off the highway, but there was no traffic noise, at least not in my fifth floor room. On a very pleasant August day, I walked into an un-airconditioned, humid lobby. The same is true of the hallways. The receptionist, the only employee present, very kindly helped me to take my luggage up to my room and turned on the air-conditioning. It did keep the room cool but didn't completely remove the humidity. (It wasn't humid outdoors on the day that I arrived, but it was the next day.) Unfortunately, the heating/air conditioning unit is directly opposite the bed, so there is a continuous blast of cold air against the head of the sleeper. The unusual outdoor contours of the building create dead space in the room, specifically, one can't get close to the windows. The king-sized mattress was very soft, which may be to the liking of some, but it was also lumpy. The pillows weren't of the usual rectangular shape, but rather square, half the size of a standard pillow, judging by the amount of excess pillowcase that was folded over, and just barely large enough to fit under my head (and I have a small head). They were useless for propping one up to read in bed. The bed had a very comfortable duvet instead of a blanket. The bathroom was amply provided with towels. Used ones were replaced daily even though there was a notice stating that linens would only be changed every third day unless requested otherwise. The staff was very friendly but clueless as to how the appliances (e.g., TV remote) worked. To be fair, they were only receptionists, but there was no one else to ask for help. All in all, a hotel that is adequate to sleep in, but not to stay in for any length of time.
