Palmer House A Hilton Hotel

For what I paid for the room, I expected hot water in the shower. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.

The hotel itself is great. The location is great but the rooms were not good. Wall paper was peeling off the walls, the rooms smelled of mildew and the bathroom had toothpaste on the front of the sink. I booked ahead of time with AAA and then was not given that rate at the hotel, which cost me an extra $300.

This hotel is one from the glory days of Chicago - the lobby is impressively maintained and is a reminder of it's once gilded past. unfortunately, that's where today's glory ends. The rooms are very tiny, ours was so small there was no dresser to store our clothes in and the TV was mounted to the wall. we also had no mini-fridge, but they did take up valuable floor space to have an extremely overpriced mini-bar fridge. The bathroom was extremely small with no counter space, and the marble floor had not been maintained or cleaned well. It should have been sealed long ago. Every floor of the hotel that has guestrooms on it is tired and dull. Water stains abound on the ceiling. Paint is chipping. Floors are dirty (there was a spill outside the elevator the entirety of our stay). This hotel needs a multi-million dollar facelift for it's guestrooms if it wants to stay relevant. I appreciate historic properties and frequent them quite often, however none have left me as disappointed as the Palmer House. It was just really quite sad to see the guest rooms in such a neglected state.
