McKenzie-Santiam Pass Scenic Loop, Route 126

Following SR 126 and US 20, this northern half of the McKenzie-Santiam Pass Loop curves through dense ponderosa pine forests blanketing the shoulders of volcanic peaks. Take advantage of the many turnouts to enjoy stunning views of mountain lakes and streams with dark cinder cones looming in the background.

Threading through the Deschutes and Willamette national forests, this scenic byway shows off the high Cascades in all its beauty, offering access to ski areas and hiking trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail. You’ll enjoy excellent views of Black Butte and Mount Washington as well as Lost Lake, which disappears into lava tubes in summer, and the sparkling McKenzie River.
