ELECTRICITY

Britain has a 240-volt power supply. Electrical sockets take plugs with three square pins, so an adapter is needed for American appliances. A transformer is also required for appliances operating on 110 or 120 volts.

RESTROOMS

Public restrooms (toilets, lavatories, WCs, or, in everyday parlance, “loos”) are generally easy to find and maintained to a high standard. Most are free, but a charge is made for those at major rail stations (about 20p).

PHOTOGRAPHY

British skies are unpredictable, so pack a range of film speeds. The countryside is very green, however, so landscape shots work well if the weather is good. Most museums will not allow you to take pictures; check first. Film and camera batteries are available from grocery stores, pharmacies and camera stores. Rapid-developing services are common and reasonably priced.
