Goldenes Dachl
Innsbruck's Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is, in fact, an oriel (bay) window, added onto the front of the previous ducal palace
to commemorate Emperor Maximilian I's marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza of Milan in 1493. Beautifully decorated with reliefs
of the Emperor, it is roofed with more than 2,700 gilt copper tiles - hence its name. From here, Maximilian watched festivities
in the square below. An informative audiovisual show and the “Maximilianeum” museum (behind the Goldenes Dachl) will fill
you in on Maximilian's life and times.
