A mountain, brook and lake near Rumney bear the name of David Stinson, a colleague of Gen. John Stark. The community, established in the 1760s near the confluence of Stinson Brook and the Baker River, serves summer travelers and the surrounding farming area.
The Mary Baker Eddy Historic House is at 58 Stinson Lake Rd. The founder of Christian Science, Eddy lived in the house 1860-62. Tours of the home are available Thurs.-Sat. 11-4, early May-Oct. 31 or by appointment; phone (800) 277-8943, ext. 100.
