Reached from exit 301 off I-70, Fort Riley is the home of the 1st Infantry Division. The fort was built in 1853 to protect travelers along the Santa Fe Trail. Originally established as Camp Center, the fort later was named for Gen. Bennett Riley, who led the first military escort down the Santa Fe Trail in 1829.
