Merrillville is in Indiana's far northwest corner. A stopping point for wagon trains heading west, the early settlement had 16 trails radiating in all directions—much like the transportation system that exists today. Of regional importance is the John Wood Mill, part of Old Mill Park, about 8 miles east of SR 53 on CR 330.
