About GadsdenThis town in the foothills of Lookout Mountain is one of Alabama's largest industrial centers. Industry began to flourish in Gadsden as early as 1895, not long after William P. Lay built an electrical plant in hopes of enticing investors into the area. Today local industries produce steel, rubber, fabricated metal, electrical equipment and electronic devices.
But the town is not all work and no play: Gadsden Riverfest provides 2 days of arts and crafts, shopping, music, food and children's activities in mid-June. The festival is held in Moragne Park on SR 411. Gadsden also is along the corridor of the World's Longest Yard Sale. Beginning on the first Thursday in August, the annual event runs for 4 days and spans five states including Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. Christmas at the Falls is an annual event held late November through late December in Noccalula Falls Park. The event features millions of twinkling lights, the Children's Fantasy Land, a tour through the Pioneer Village and a train ride.
