About TappahannockIn 1680 the General Assembly passed an act for “cohabitation,” creating Tappahannock and 15 other towns. The act was vetoed by King Charles II, but later revived under William and Mary. Despite these delays in sanctioning its existence, Tappahannock grew into a prosperous Colonial port and county seat.
