About VailVail is one of Colorado's flourishing resort centers. Internationally known for its extensive winter sports facilities, the Bavarian-style town also offers year-round access to recreation in the surrounding White River National Forest. The resort was founded in 1962 by members of the 10th Mountain Division who trained near Vail at Camp Hale.
Athletes, art and music converge in Vail each June for the annual GoPro Mountain Games, which feature trail running, rock climbing, kayaking, adventure racing and mountain biking competitions. In summer, Vail hosts a series of music, theater and dance events that include the Bravo! Vail Music Festival and the Vail International Dance Festival. In mid-September the town celebrates Oktoberfest early with Vail Oktoberfest, which features traditional German food, music and beer.
