What do your brake pads do?
In a vehicle brake system, the pads squeeze against the rotors and the resulting friction slows and stops the vehicle. Pads gradually wear down from the friction, and unusual noises when braking could indicate that brake pads need to be replaced. On some vehicles, a warning light will illuminate on the dashboard. Regular car maintenance should include a visual brake pad inspection. When replacing the brake pads, a service professional should also inspect the fluid, hoses, calipers, slides and rotors, and clean, lubricate or replace parts as needed. At the same time brake pads need to be replaced, it's common to also have the brake fluid flushed and brake rotors resurfaced or replaced.
