About Spanish FortSpanish Fort sits on a hill directly opposite the bay from Mobile. True to its name, the site served as an active fort during the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Preserved Civil War breastworks still are visible throughout town.

Meaher State Park is 1,327 acres of wetlands on Mobile Bay offering a boat launch, an elevated fishing pier, a nature trail and limited overnight camping facilities. The park is 2 miles west on US 90/98 (Battleship Parkway); phone (251) 626-5529.
