About WestportWestport is at the north end of an 18-mile-long beach popular for surf fishing, clam digging, crabbing or just wading. Surfers ride the waves on both sides of the Westport jetty. Saltwater fishing—particularly for salmon, halibut and tuna—is excellent, and the Westport Marina, at the foot of Wilson Street, is the base for a large sport fishing fleet. Nearly a dozen charter operators provide guided fishing trips; for information contact the chamber of commerce; phone (360) 268-9422.
An 1,800-foot walk and bridge enables anglers to fish from the breakwater area as well as from the jetties. The Lighthouse Trail extends 1.5 miles south from the jetty and follows the beach; interpretive panels along the way describe the natural history of the beach and dunes.
