Many of the archaeological sites also provide refuge both for wildlife and for the tired visitor. The Kerameikós Cemetery is a haven for lizards, tortoises and a variety of bird life, such as redstarts, nuthatches and the blue rock thrushes. It can also be peaceful to sit in the quieter parts of the large Agora, as most visitors speedily see the main highlights and leave again without venturing to the further reaches.
