More spectacular wildlife can be seen on the easy-to-arrange day-trips to places such as Delfoí (Delphi) and Epídavros. Delphi is particularly likely to produce some impressive birds of prey, despite its constant stream of visitors. Climb up above the theatre to the stadium beneath the slopes of the Parnassos Mountains and you will escape many of the crowds. If you can time your visit for the moment the gates are opened, or for the end of the day, you stand much more chance, not just of peace and quiet, but of seeing local raptors such as vultures, falcons and even golden eagles. Look out, too, for the many orchids which grow here, despite this being one of Greece's most visited sites.
