ELECTRICITY
France has a 220-volt power supply. Electrical sockets take plugs with two round pins (occasionally with three round pins);
American appliances will need a plug adapter and will require a transformer if they do not have a dual-voltage facility.
RESTROOMS
It is not difficult to find a restroom (toilettes or WC, pronounced vay-say in French), although you may still find the
old-fashioned “squat” variety. Hygiene is usually of a reasonable standard. There is a small fee to use facilities in train
stations. If you need to use the restroom in a café or bar, buy a drink first.
PHOTOGRAPHY
The range of subjects to photograph in France is enormous, and the light is usually favorable in the summer months. Film is
readily available from stores and photo labs, although development is rather expensive. Some museums and churches will allow
you to photograph inside, but permission for flash photography is usually required.
