HEALTH

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Private medical insurance is recommended. U.S. and Canadian visitors can receive treatment in emergency rooms, but are charged if admitted to a hospital bed. A general practitioner also will charge for services.

DENTAL SERVICES
Dentists charge for treatment. Dental work is expensive, so check to see if it is covered by your medical insurance. Dentists are listed in the yellow pages, or ask at your embassy, hotel or at a tourist office.

SUN ADVICE
The sunniest months are May and June, with 5-61/2 hours of sun a day (the extreme southwest is the sunniest). July and August are the warmest. During these months you should take sensible precautions against the sun.

DRUGS
Pharmacies (also called chemists) sell a range of prescription and non-prescription medicines. If you need medicine outside regular hours, information about the nearest 24-hour facility should be posted on the door of all pharmacies.

SAFE WATER
Tap water is safe to drink throughout Ireland. If, however, you prefer mineral water you will find it widely available.
